2020-21 Basketball Registration now OPEN
Greetings. The air is crisp, the leaves are changing and football is being played – it must be time for BAC Basketball Registration. . . . . and despite Covid 19 – you would be right. BAC is now accepting registrations for the 2020-21 basketball season. What and how this season looks remains to be seen. To register go to: http://bowathleticclub.siplay.com/site/ and for more information, visit our website at: http://www.bowathleticclub.com or contact Bryce Larrabee (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Obviously Covid 19 has impacted every aspect of everyone’s lives in unimaginable ways. The same will be true for BAC Basketball. Frankly, at this point in time we are not certain what the basketball season will look like (in fact, its possible there is no season at all). It is possible that it could look like any other year – with the majority of teams playing in the Merrimack Basketball League (“MBL”) and the “travel teams” playing in the Manchester Suburban League (“MSL”). As of the writing of this email, the MBL is tentatively planning on having a six game season with no jamboree and no playoffs with games being played for ¾ grade and 5/6th grade in November and December and with games for 7/8th grade and high school in January and February. The MSL is planning on beginning its season (and teams and all games) in January 2021.
Its also possible, and frankly more likely, that Covid dictates a different direction for the BAC basketball program. One alternative to the MBL is a Bow/Dunbarton league (i.e every game would be Bow vs Bow teams or Bow vs Dunbarton teams). Another alternative to the MSL is a town league that has formed at the Sportszone in Derry (in which there would be no Bow home games as all games for the “travel teams” would be played at the Sportszone – and its fairly expensive to play in this league). As of the writing of this email – these two options are the likely the direction the program is heading for this year.
Of course there are other potential options as well – its simply too early to tell what direction BAC basketball will be taking this season – but we are confident and hopeful that at least one of them will involve Bow kids having the opportunity to play BAC basketball this year – which is why – despite the uncertainty – we have decided to press forward with registrations and evaluations. If there ends up being no season we will certainly refund all registrations fees. One good piece of news is that we expect the 1st and 2nd grade league to look exactly like it has in the past few years with no particular changes anticipated (but for Covid cleaning procedures discussed below).
Covid will certainly impact the way we do evaluations, play the games, practice in the gym, including:
Evaluations will be held outside at the BHS outdoor courts on Sunday October 18th (with all Evaluations held on that date). For those few kids that are unable to make that date we will have one combined alternative evaluation (which typically we have about five kids that cannot make the evaluations and we ask that everyone try and hard as they can to be able to attend the evaluations). Players that miss the evaluation and alternative date will not be considered for any “travel team”.
As we are not certain whether there will (or will not) be a Bow Memorial School team(s) this year –so we strongly encourage all 7th and 8th graders to attend the evaluations on October 18th (note – the 7/8th grade travel team IS the BMS school team – we will not have an alternative travel team – unless there is no BMS team – in which case the evaluated team will be the travel team). Note -we have no special information regarding such – we simply have not heard anything whatsoever about BMS teams.
Games will look different this year. Expect a) limited fan attendance b) bleachers to remain closed (less area to clean between games) c) more time between games, d) teams waiting to play their game to remain in their cars in the parking lot, e) possible enter/exit gyms through direct backdoors (avoiding the hallways entirely), f) mandatory mask wearing by all expect players on the court, and possible other changes as well.
Practices will have similar restrictions as the games.
Because of all of the uncertainty, BAC is reducing the initial registration fee from $110 to $90. For players that are selected for the “travel teams” they will be required to pay an additional $100 (due to the significant increase in expenses that we are anticipating this season associated with those teams).
So we are super excited and hopeful for a great basketball season and we are preparing accordingly, we ask for your patience and understanding as we work through what indoor winter sports will look like in Bow and other New Hampshire Communities this coming winter.
Thus, again, Bow Athletic Club is now accepting registrations for our 2020-21 youth basketball program. The program is open to Bow and Dunbarton residents in 1st grade through high school. Again, evaluations of players in grades 3 through 8 will be held on Sunday 10/18/20 so do not wait to register (specific details regarding evaluation times to follow). Registration to close October 17th. Failure to register before that date will result in a $25 late fee (if space is available and you will not be eligible for a “travel team”). To register go to: http://bowathleticclub.siplay.com/site/ and for more information, visit our website at: http://www.bowathleticclub.com or contact Bryce Larrabee (email@example.com).
At http://www.bowathleticclub.com you should be able to find under the “Basketball” Tab everything you could ever wanted to know about BAC basketball including general information, frequently asked questions (which is very detailed), camps and clinics, etc.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
